Hi! I'm Cindy Keene, the hands (and occasionally glue-covered fingers) behind Mahjong Happy.

As a Japanese American artist and lifelong maker, I've always been fascinated by the stories that handcrafted objects can tell. In many Asian cultures - including my own - beautifully made things are treasured, shared, and passed from one generation to the next. That appreciation for craftsmanship, thoughtful details, and creating with care continues to inspire everything I make.

Mahjong Happy was born from two happy obsessions: making things and playing mahjong. Somewhere between "Just one more game" and "What if I made something with these tiles?" a new creative adventure began.

Each ornament, frame, sign, and keepsake is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted in my Massachusetts studio using wood, resin, paint, reclaimed treasures, and mixed media. I love transforming everyday materials into one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate the game and the people who play it.

To me, mahjong has never been just a game. It's laughter, stories shared over snacks, lifelong friendships, and the thrill of finally drawing the tile you've been waiting for.

When I'm not in my studio, you'll usually find me exploring New England for inspiration, hunting for vintage treasures, or being supervised by my Portuguese Water Dog, Yoko, who takes her job as Chief Quality Control Officer very seriously (especially if snacks are involved).
